Hello Medium. It’s Me, Kit.
A quick update.
Hello Medium. It’s me, Kit.
Yes, I’m still here. I’m still around. Writing projects and networking have taken most of my time lately. Showing up here regularly to write my guts out for pennies had to take a back seat.
I had high hopes for Medium this year. I started a publication, made new Medium friends, and even applied to join the Medium Boost gatekeeper program.
I never heard back.
Medium Day came and went. I didn’t bother checking in. The focus here has felt disjointed. Who is the platform catering to now? It used to be indie writers, but now, I’m not so sure.
I’m not leaving the platform, even though some of my friends are. I’ll be here, hacking out personal essays when I have time and publishing articles for my publication, License to Chill, when the pieces fit.
I still love writing here.
Do you know what I love most about this platform? The simplistic beauty of the word processing. I love typing and formatting here, and I even use it for projects I work on. Then I copy/paste them to other platforms to easily share them.
I organized and wrote a lot of my book here too. It’s just soothing to write here — it’s unfussy.
The white space. The font. It’s what I want everywhere.
I had a meeting with a tech founder recently. He was working on a platform like this but on the blockchain. I told him not to underestimate the experience of the writer.
You can add all these extras, but what I want as a writer is a beautiful writing space. Don’t lose that.
Here’s where you can find my work weekly.
Every Tuesday, I publish the Leadership Field Guide on LinkedIn. Join 6,068 other people and subscribe here. This newsletter is full of actionable advice for all humans working with other humans.
Every Thursday, The Voice of the Frontline hits your inbox via Substack. This includes my loud-mouthed opinions on retail, frontline work, and answers to questions I get in my DMs. Join 1,016 people and subscribe here.
Connect with me on LinkedIn. I post there daily.
I’ll show up here as much as I can. I’d love to publish a personal essay every week, but sometimes it’s impossible.
Connecting with indie writers is super cool, and I hope Medium doesn’t lose that. Sometimes reading here can feel heavy too. I’m not interested in productivity hacks or how you earned $$$ by working 30 minutes daily.
I want to read real stories by everyday people. I want to read what I can’t read in mainstream publications.
This was one of the best stories I read on Medium this year.
I want more of this and less of being marketed to or told I that I need to hustle. I get that everywhere.
I hope you’re all well and thriving.
I’ll see you back here real soon.
Until then -
Stay rad,
Kit
